Install

Install Recipe Lab

About ten minutes, once. You need the camera, its USB cable, a memory card and a computer.

Your computer

Download pmca-gui.exe from the Sony-PMCA-RE releases page and run it. Nothing to install.

  1. 1

    Get the installer

Download pmca-gui from Sony-PMCA-RE. It's the free tool that puts apps on the camera the same way Sony's own store did. Nothing to install on Windows — just run it.

  2. 2

    Download Recipe Lab

One small file, RecipeLab.apk. It's for the camera, not your phone.

    Download RecipeLab.apk
  3. 3

    Prepare the camera

Charge the battery, insert a memory card, set Setup → USB Connection to Mass Storage, then connect the cable.

  4. 4

    Install

In the installer pick Install app from file → RecipeLab.apk. The camera flickers and switches modes; after about a minute the computer says Task completed successfully.

  5. 5

    Restart and open

Unplug, switch the camera off and on. Recipe Lab is under MENU → Application → Application List.

If something goes wrong

No devices found

USB Connection must be Mass Storage, the card inserted, and the camera on and showing USB Mode. Try another cable or port.

Stuck at Waiting for camera to switch…

Unplug, turn the camera off and on, reconnect and run the installer again.

WRITE FAILED when picking a recipe

The camera refused the setting. Install OpenMemories-Tweak, open Protection, tick Unlock protected settings until it reads Protection disabled, then pick the recipe again.

The look isn't applied, or is gone after a power cycle

Turn the camera off and on. If the mode dial is on MR, 1 or 2, Memory Recall loads its own settings at power-on — shoot from P, A, S or M instead.

There's no Application menu

Your camera can't run apps — see the compatibility list. Everything Sony released after 2016 is in this group.

Installer problems belong to Sony-PMCA-RE's issue tracker; anything about Recipe Lab itself, to ours.

Undo or uninstall

Pick Factory in the app (or hold TRASH) to go back to the camera's own look. Then remove the app under MENU → Application → Application Management → Manage and Remove. Removing it doesn't reset the colour settings, so undo the look first.
